Jake Kent (born 1990) is an artist working between rural Staffordshire and Berlin. He graduated from Nottingham Trent University with a degree in Fine Art in 2014 and completed a year of study with The School of the Damned (an alternative art-education experiment initiated in response to rising tuition fees) in 2016. Since 2012 he has been involved in artist led spaces, namely Triple O.G. Gallery and Publishers (2012-14) and Losers Gym (2016-17). His work is an amalgamation of his interests in current and historical attempts to live differently. Stemming from a teenage passion for and continued involvement in punk music, which led to an introduction to Europe’s remaining squat scene, combined with current socio-political theories he creates artworks that exist in speculative futures. These works sit on the fence between artwork and functional object. Calendars, candle holders, rugs and puppets all exist in often post-apocalyptic, future-fictions in an attempt to embody an art/object maker whose knowledge or memory of capitalism, technique and art history is vague, manipulated or non-existent.

Er schloss 2014 sein Studium der Bildenden Kunst an der Nottingham Trent University ab und absolvierte 2016 ein Studienjahr an der School of the Damned (einem alternativen Kunsterziehungsexperiment, das als Reaktion auf die steigenden Studiengebühren initiiert wurde). Seit 2012 ist er an von Künstlern geführten Räumen beteiligt, nämlich Triple O.G. Gallery and Publishers (2012-14) und Losers Gym (2016-17). Seine Arbeit ist eine Verschmelzung seiner Interessen an aktuellen und historischen Versuchen, anders zu leben. Ausgehend von seiner jugendlichen Leidenschaft für Punk-Musik, die ihn in die europäische Hausbesetzer-Szene einführte, kombiniert er aktuelle soziopolitische Theorien mit Kunstwerken, die in spekulativen Zukünften existieren. Diese Arbeiten bewegen sich auf der Grenze zwischen Kunstwerk und funktionalem Objekt. Kalender, Kerzenständer, Teppiche und Marionetten existieren alle in oft postapokalyptischen Zukunftsfiktionen und versuchen, einen Kunst-/Objektmacher zu verkörpern, dessen Wissen oder Erinnerung an Kapitalismus, Technik und Kunstgeschichte vage, manipuliert oder nicht vorhanden ist.

Si è laureato alla Nottingham Trent University in Fine Art nel 2014 e ha completato un anno di studio con The School of the Damned (un esperimento di educazione artistica alternativa avviato in risposta all'aumento delle tasse universitarie) nel 2016. Dal 2012 è stato coinvolto in spazi gestiti da artisti, tra cui Triple O.G. Gallery and Publishers (2012-14) e Losers Gym (2016-17). Il suo lavoro è un amalgama dei suoi interessi nei tentativi attuali e storici di vivere in modo alternativo. A partire da una passione adolescenziale per la musica punk e da un continuo coinvolgimento in essa, che lo ha portato a conoscere la scena squat rimasta in Europa, combinato con le attuali teorie socio-politiche, crea opere d'arte che esistono in futuri speculativi. Queste opere si collocano a metà strada tra l'opera d'arte e l'oggetto funzionale. Calendari, portacandele, tappeti e fantocci esistono tutti in immaginari futuri spesso post-apocalittici, nel tentativo di incarnare un artefice/oggetto la cui conoscenza o memoria del capitalismo, della tecnica e della storia dell'arte è vaga, manipolata o inesistente.
