Day of Architecture with Martin Feiersinger

After a huge landslide from the Mendel about 1,000 years ago, enormous masses of stone still lie at the foot of the mountain. On this rubble - called Gand - stands Gandegg Castle. The late-medieval residential tower was first mentioned in a document in 1434. However, it was not until the 16th and 18th centuries that it acquired its present appearance with the characteristic four round towers, the massive circular wall and the rococo chapel. The castle was owned by the noble family Khuen von Belasi for five generations and was known as a summer residence as well as a place for meetings and festivities. Since 1991, Gandegg Castle has been the residence of the entrepreneur and art collector Hans Oberrauch and his family. In addition to the exhibition programme, children's workshops with artists have recently been held in the summer.

The Austrian architect Martin Feiersinger recently renovated the outbuilding of Gandegg Castle. Where once the horses were housed, we now find the art library, workrooms and a bar. The entire furniture was designed by the architect. For the prominent chandelier, Feiersinger takes up the motif of Leonardo da Vinci's dodecahedron. In addition to his 15th-century exploration of geometry and space, there is also room for the unexpected. The multi-legged jellyfish stools, for example, spring from Feiersinger's humour and float around the library as funny splashes of colour.

In the park of Gandegg Castle you come across a very special work of art. The Mini Hotel by artist and provocateur Joep van Lieshout has also made a name for itself in the architectural scene. The interior is not much bigger than a double bed, equipped with a mattress, sheets, blankets, a reading lamp and a power socket - in other words, according to the artist, the bare essentials. This tiny blue bunk redefines the concept of living and, at the same time, invites you to linger comfortably inside the cell.
The artist Joep van Lieshout founded the Atelier van Lieshout in Rotterdam in 1995. His work moves between art, architecture and design. Characteristic of his work is its orientation towards practical purpose. The use of fibreglass in striking colours and an industrial production method are trademarks of the artist.

Nach einem gewaltigen Bergsturz von der Mendel vor rund 1.000 Jahren liegen heute noch ungeheure Steinmassen am Fuße des Berges. Auf diesem Geröll – Gand genannt – steht das Schloss Gandegg. 1434 wurde der spätmittelalterliche Wohnturm erstmals urkundlich erwähnt. Sein heutiges Aussehen mit den charakteristischen vier Rundtürmen, der massiven Ringmauer und der Rokokokapelle erhielt es jedoch erst im 16. bzw. 18. Jahrhundert. Das Schloss war fünf Generationen lang im Besitz der Adelsfamilie Khuen von Belasi und war als Sommerresidenz sowie als Ort für Versammlungen und Feste bekannt. Seit 1991 ist Schloss Gandegg der Wohnsitz des Unternehmers und Kunstsammlers Hans Oberrauch und seiner Familie. Neben dem Ausstellungsprogramm finden seit Kurzem im Sommer auch Kinderworkshops mit Kunstschaffenden statt.

Der österreichische Architekt Martin Feiersinger sanierte kürzlich das Nebengebäude von Schloss Gandegg. Wo einst die Pferde untergebracht wurden, finden wir heute die Kunstbibliothek, Arbeitsräume und eine Bar. Das gesamte Mobiliar wurde vom Architekten entworfen. Beim prominenten Luster greift Feiersinger das Motiv des Dodekaeders von Leonardo da Vinci auf. Neben seiner Auseinandersetzung mit Geometrie und Raum aus dem 15. Jahrhundert gibt es auch Raum für Unerwartetes. So entspringen die mehrbeinigen Quallenhocker aus Feiersingers Humor und wabern als lustige Farbtupfer in der Bibliothek herum.

Im Park von Schloss Gandegg trifft man auf weitere Kunstwerke. Das Mini Hotel von Künstler und Provokateur Joep van Lieshout hat sich auch in der Architekturszene einen Namen gemacht. Das Innere ist nicht viel größer als ein Doppelbett, ausgestattet mit einer Matratze, Bettlaken, Decken, einer Leselampe und einer Steckdose – laut dem Künstler also mit dem Nötigsten. Diese winzige blaue Schlafkoje definiert den Begriff des Wohnens neu und lädt gleichzeitig zum gemütlichen Verweilen im Inneren der Zelle ein.

Der Künstler Joep van Lieshout gründete 1995 das Atelier van Lieshout in Rotterdam. Sein Schaffen bewegt sich zwischen Kunst, Architektur und Design. Kennzeichnend für sein Werk ist die Ausrichtung am praktischen Zweck. Die Verwendung von Fiberglas in auffallenden Farben und eine industrielle Produktionsweise sind Markenzeichen des Künstlers.

Come conseguenza della terribile frana avvenuta circa mille anni fa, alla base della Mendola si incontrano ancora oggi dei massi enormi. Su questi detriti, chiamati gande, sorge appunto Castel Ganda. La torre d’abitazione tardomedievale è menzionata per la prima volta in un documento del 1434, ma l’aspetto attuale con le caratteristiche quattro torri circolari, le mura massicce e la cappella in stile rococò risale al XVI o XVIII secolo. Il castello è rimasto per cinque gene- razioni in possesso della famiglia nobiliare Khuen von Belasi ed era famoso sia come residenza estiva che come luogo di riunioni e feste. Dal 1991 Castel Ganda è l’abitazione dell’imprenditore e collezionista d’arte Hans Oberrauch e della sua famiglia. In parallelo al programma espositivo da un po’ di tempo in estate si organizzano anche workshop per bambini con la partecipazione di artisti.

L’architetto austriaco Martin Feiersinger ha risanato di recente l’edificio annesso di Castel Ganda. Dove un tempo si tenevano i cavalli oggi troviamo la biblioteca d’arte, alcuni ambienti di lavoro e un bar. Tutti gli arredi sono stati disegnati dall’architetto. Per l’originale lampadario Feiersinger ha ripreso il motivo del dodecaedro di Leonardo da Vinci. Oltre all’interesse per la geometria e la concezione dello spazio del XV secolo, c’è anche posto per esperienze inattese: gli sgabelli con le gambe di Feiersinger sono pieni di humor e sembrano galleggiare nella biblioteca come tanti divertenti puntini colorati.

Nel parco di Castel Ganda ci si imbatte in un’opera d’arte assolutamente particolare. Il Mini Hotel dell’artista e provocatore Joep van Lieshout è diventato famoso anche nel mondo dell’architettura. L’interno non è molto più grande di un letto matrimoniale dotato di materasso, lenzuola, copriletto, una lampada per leggere e una presa elettrica – secondo l’artista il minimo indispensabile. Questa minuscola cuccetta blu ridefinisce l’idea dell’abitare e contemporaneamente invita a trascorrere comodamente il proprio tempo all’interno della cellula.

Joep van Lieshout ha fondato l’atelier van Lieshout nel 1995 a Rotterdam. Il suo lavoro si muove tra arte, architettura e design. Un tratto caratteristico delle sue opere è di avere sempre un fine pratico. L’impiego della fibra di vetro con colori vistosi e di sistemi di produzione industriale sono i segni distintivi di questo artista.
